MORE INFORMATIONS
Compared to the small, open blue recuperation bins, the new 360-liter blue rolling bins:
- Better protect recyclable materials from the weather.
- Facilitate the work of collection and sorting centre employees
- Further contribute to keeping the City clean.
This change is part of the modernization of selective collection, a Gouvernement du Québec initiative aimed at improving the efficiency of recycling collection.
What to do with your old blue bin?
The City will not take back your old small blue bin, but encourages you to reuse it. For example, you can use it to carry your recyclables to the new bin, or to store your personal belongings. If it breaks, you can place it in your new 360-litre wheeled bin for the next recycling collection. If you do not want to receive a 360-liter bin, please email environnement@westmount.org as soon as possible to be removed from the delivery list.

About the modernization of selective collection: In 2021, the Assemblée nationale du Québec adopted Bill 65, An Act to amend mainly the Environment Quality Act with respect to deposits and selective collection laying the foundations for the modernization of deposit and selective collection systems. The modernization of curbside recycling, led by Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), aims to improve the efficiency and quality of sorting recyclable materials. This province-wide initiative aims to make the collection system more efficient, increase the recycling rate, and reduce contamination of recyclable materials. The following measures are among those included in this initiative:
- Standardization of bins: One type of bin to facilitate sorting.
- Single color: Blue is now the official color for recyclables.
- Increased capacity: The new bins are larger to meet growing household needs.
