The period for seeking nomination as a candidate for any of the positions is strictly from September 22 to October 6, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. Any person seeking nomination as a candidate must complete the required form, and submit it, by appointment only, to the Office of the Returning Officer during the aforementioned period, under pain of refusal. However, an appointment will not be required for those candidacies that are submitted on the final day, October 6, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Only a person who is entitled to have his name entered on the list of electors of the city, has resided, continuously or not, in the territory of the city since at least September 1, 2016, and who is not ineligible according to the law may declare oneself a candidate.

If you wish to collect contributions and incur expenses as an independent candidate or as a political party, you must first obtain an authorization in accordance with the Act. The returning officer of your municipality grants authorizations to independent candidates, and the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec (DGEQ) grants authorizations to parties. An independent candidate or a person wishing to become one can apply for authorization as from January 1st of the year in which a general election will be held.

To obtain authorization for yourself or your party, you must first appoint an official representative and an official agent.
